Due to ongoing drought conditions and the need to conserve our precious water resources, the City of Wylie, TX has implemented new water restrictions for 2024. These measures aim to ensure that we have enough water for essential uses while reducing waste and preserving the environment.

Key Restrictions

Outdoor Watering

  • Days and Times:
    • Residents with even-numbered addresses can water their lawns and gardens on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
    • Residents with odd-numbered addresses can water on Wednesdays and Sundays.
  • No watering is allowed between 10 AM and 6 PM to minimize evaporation losses.
  • Hand watering and the use of soaker hoses are permitted any day, as long as they are used outside the restricted hours.

Vehicle Washing

  • Personal vehicle washing is allowed on designated watering days (Tuesdays and Saturdays for even-numbered addresses, Wednesdays and Sundays for odd-numbered addresses) but must be done using a bucket or a hose with an automatic shut-off nozzle.
  • Commercial car washes remain operational but are encouraged to adopt water-saving measures.

Swimming Pools

  • Filling and refilling of swimming pools are permitted only on designated watering days.
  • Pool covers should be used when pools are not in use to reduce evaporation.

New Landscaping

  • Newly planted lawns and landscapes can be watered daily for the first 30 days after installation. After 30 days, regular watering restrictions apply.

Prohibited Activities

  • Washing down driveways, sidewalks, and other hard surfaces with a hose is prohibited.
  • Ornamental fountains must be turned off unless they recirculate water.

Enforcement

  • First offense will receive a warning.
  • Subsequent violations will result in fines ranging from $50 to $500, depending on the severity and frequency of the offense.

Tips for Water Conservation

  • Upgrade to water-efficient appliances such as low-flow toilets and showerheads.
  • Fix leaks promptly, even small drips can waste significant amounts of water over time.
  • Use mulch around plants to retain soil moisture and reduce the need for frequent watering.
  • Collect rainwater for irrigation purposes.

By adhering to these water restrictions and adopting conservation habits, residents of Wylie, TX can play a crucial role in preserving our water resources during these challenging times.
